Our Coaches

We are lucky to have exceptional coaches here at Rimutaka Gymsports. Our coaching team are passionate about anything to do with gymnastics and enjoy seeing gymnasts with smiles on their faces and achieving skills.

Coach Jo
Womens Artistics Gymnastics (WAG) lead coach

Jo is our wonderful lead WAG coach. She oversees the competitive programme here at Rimutaka.  Jo is also a qualified senior gymnastics judge. Jo came to Rimutaka to coach in 2016 from Pandas, where she had been a competitive gymnast.  She has been a key part of the competitive coaching team ever since. Jo's favourite thing about coaching is the smiles on the gymnasts when they achieve something they have been working hard on for months!

Coach Ken
Super Coach

Ken probably needs no introduction to most Rimutaka gymnasts and their families! Recently awarded a life membership for services to our club.  He coaches development right through to senior competitive gymnasts.  Ken's way of coaching is magical and his classes are always calm and under control - except when it is time for the drumroll to announce gymnast of the night! Ken prides himself on being able to spot talented gymnasts and all the years later, the gymnast will still be 'one of his'.

Coach Victoria
Competitive Coach

Victoria is currently coaching Step 5 squad and is well loved by them all.  She is also assistant coach in Senior Excel and is a senior qualified judge.  Victoria has been involved in Rimutaka Gymsports on and off for 22 years.  She started as a trampoline coach not long after moving to New Zealand in 2001, had a break and then returned to coaching trampoline when her eldest daughter was a pre-schooler.  When her eldest daughter started gymnastics, Victoria started coaching again.

Coach Keri
Pre-school Coach

Keri is our fantastic pre-school coach. She has been instrumental to setting up the homeschool classes, is a gym-for-all coach and runs a development squad.  Keri has been around about Rimutaka Gymsports on and off over the last 22 years. She was a competitive gymnast, then coach, and then returned to the club when her daughters recently started as gymnasts.

Coach Kate
Senior Competitive WAG coach

Kate is new to coaching at Rimutaka. Her three daughters all attend Rimutaka at different levels. Kate was a senior competitive gymnast and did all her training through Pandas Gymnastics Club. Kate has 22 years of experience as a competitive coach.  She has coached gymnasts from pre-competitive all the way through to Step 10 and is senior advanced qualified coach. Kate is also a very experienced judge (a Brevet which is the highest judging qualification and means Kate can judge senior competitions and  internationally)  Kate says the best part about coaching is helping the gymnasts develop physically and mentally, and when they achieve the goals they set for themselves it can be magic!

Coach Crystal

Coach Crystal is one of the most passionate believers in Rimutaka Gymsports as a gymnastic club!  She started at Rimutaka at the age of 8 years and competed until Level 9 (even competing at Nationals at Level 9). Crystal coached and judged after she finished competing and then left for her career in the New Zealand Police. While she was in the Police she came back for a while to coach Step 2.  After a break to have her family, Coach Crystal came back to Rimutaka Gymsports with her daughters (Harper currently Step 2 and Peyton currently Step 1).  Coach Crystals favourite thing about Rimutaka is seeing gymnasts of all ages and stages getting involved and achieving their goals – whatever they may be.  I love walking into the gym and seeing those smiling faces.

Aaron B started coaching in 2020 before quarantine. He is a coach, who just finished his xtnd coach courses, who coaches some recreation classes and the boys classes. His favourite thing about coaching is seeing how excited the gymnasts get after learning a new skill they’ve been stuck on.

Maia is currently at Ollerup in the Netherlands for six months.  Usually she co-ordinates our Gym-for-All, coaches numerous Gym-for-All and Excel classes and is also a competitive coach.  Maia is a qualified elementary gymnastics judge.  A much-valued part of the coaching team, Maia has been coaching gymnastics for 7 years.  Maia enjoys helping gymnasts achieve things they didn't know they could do, no matter what level they are.
